The chair was originally designed by Klint in 1936 for the Grundtvig Church in Copenhagen and manufactured by Fritz Hansen. Kaare Klint is acknowledged as one of the most influential Danisch designers of the 20th century. He was an important example and teacher for designers as Poul Kjaerholm, Hans Wegner and Borge Mogensen.
